Brief overview of typical practices

A class of ashtanga vinyasa yoga begins with dynamic repetitions of Surya Namaskara, followed by one of six structured sequences of asanas, depending on student’s ability. The six series are: the primary series for beginner practitioners, the intermediate series, and four level of advanced series. A student is typically advised to stay in the posture for five to eight deep breaths, and often transitions to another posture through vinyasas (dynamic exercises).
